Jean-Michel Jarre, Laurent Garnier and Air’s Nicholas Godin, plus many more, will all be there.

Red Bull Music Academy 2015 is nearly upon us. After heading east in 2014 for a month-long sensory overload in Tokyo, this year the Academy lands in Paris to celebrate the French capital's contribution to culture past, present and future. From October 25 to November 27, a studio team featuring Modeselektor, Thundercat and Just Blaze will mentor 61 participants at the Gaîté Lyrique. For the rest of us, though, there's an eye-popping line-up of events, installations and lectures.

To celebrate the Academy's first appearance in Europe since 2011, the 17th Red Bull Music Academy features some huge names. Notable artists who'll be lecturing and performing are Gallic techno pioneer Laurent Garnier, Parisian disco legend and recent star of Glastonbury Cerrone, and a man who gave the electronic-music revolution new impetus way back when, Jean-Michel Jarre.

Keeping things homegrown, Laurent Garnier’s much-loved Rex Club will be throwing a night that pitches house-music joker Mr Oizo alongside New York's L.I.E.S. imprint and wintry synth-pop obsessives Minimal Wave. Sexy Boy and one half of Air Nicolas Godin will be joined in a double bill by Stereolab's refined synth-pop ace, Lætitia Sadier.

From further afield comes Stephen O'Malley's doom merchants Sunn O))), south-central LA's modern jazzer Kamasi Washington and thrilling, post-rock-infused saxophonist Colin Stetson. That's just the tip of the iceberg, too.

Jean-Michel Jarre revolutioniert mit seinen Synthesizer-Klängen die Musikwelt und gilt als einer der größten französischen Popstars überhaupt. arte zeigt mit einem Film von Birgit Herdlitschke die erste TV-Dokumentation über Jean-Michel Jarre. Sie begleitet den 66-Jährigen bei den Aufnahmen zu seinem neuen Album, mit dem er sich einen Traum erfüllt: Er ist um die Welt gereist und hat mit Legenden der elektronischen Musik Songs eingespielt – unter anderem mit Vince Clarke, Moby, Little Boots und Gesaffelstein.

Diese Begegnungen bilden das Rückgrat des Films. Von hier aus blickt Jarre zurück auf sein Leben und seine Karriere: von der Kindheit in Lyon und Paris über erste Experimente mit elektronischen Klängen bis zum Übernacht-Erfolg mit „Oxygène“. Er erklärt, was ihn an elektronischer Musik bis heute fasziniert und erzählt, warum er selbst bei Auftritten vor einem Millionenpublikum seine Melancholie nicht los wird und was sein Vater damit zu tun hat.

Umfangreiches Filmmaterial aus privaten und öffentlichen Archiven bebildert die persönliche Zeitenreise und die Highlights seiner Karriere. Ergänzt mit aktuell gedrehten Szenen entsteht ein umfassendes Bild des Klangpioniers der elektronischen Musik. Zu Wort kommen neben Jean-Michel Jarre selbst auch seine Ex-Frau Charlotte Rampling, Freunde, Wegbegleiter und junge Musiker-Kollegen.

Jarre’s Time Machine is ‘most ambitious project’

First of 2 titles includes collaborations with biggest names in electronic music history

Jean-Michel Jarre will launch latest album Electronica Part 1: The Time Machine next month – and he says it’s his “most ambitious project” to date.

It features guest appearances from 15 artists across the electronic music spectrum, including the late Edgar Froese, Air, John Carpenter, Moby, M83 and 3D of Massive Attack.

Jarre has aimed to explain the history of the genre with the work. He says: “I’ve wanted to tell a story for a while, regarding its legacy from my experience, from when I started to nowadays.

“So I planned to compose for and collaborate with an array of artists, with people I admire for their contribution to our genre, that represented a source of inspiration for me.

“I had no idea how the project would evolve – but I was delighted that everybody I reached out to accepted my invitation.”

Jarre worked with each collaborator personally, rather than via remote connections. Moby says: “It would be very easy for him to sit in Paris, email people and have them send things back.

“But to physically sit down with every one on multiple occasions, to be in a studio with people and push them to look at different parts of themselves as musicians – that will make this album interesting.

“It’s about humans coming together in a very unique way.”

Electronica 1: The Time Machine is released on October 16. It’s the first of two titles, featuring a total of 30 collaborators.

Marco G a côtoyé Pete Townshend, Moby et plusieurs stars lors de l’enregistrement de 2 albums

L’ancien DJ de la discothèque du Dagobert, à Québec, joue maintenant dans la cour des grands. Marco G a travaillé étroitement avec le Français Jean-Michel Jarre sur ses deux prochains albums, une association qui lui a permis de côtoyer des stars comme Pete Townshend, Moby et Armin van Buuren.

«Je tripe à fond», s’est exclamé à plusieurs reprises Marco Grenier, lors d’un entretien exclusif avec Le Journal.

Jean-Michel Jarre est considéré comme le parrain de la musique électronique et ambiante en Europe. Daft Punk a cité celui qui a vendu plus de 80 millions d’albums parmi ses influences majeures.

Depuis trois ans, Marco G assiste Jarre à la production musicale d’Electronica 1: The Time Machine, un album qui sortira le 16 octobre et dont le volume 2 paraîtra au printemps.

Comme Townshend, Moby et van Buuren, des invités de marque se joignent à Jarre sur chaque pièce. Marco G, qui a partagé l’aventure avec le Québécois Stéphane Gervais, a ainsi pu travailler avec M83, Air, Tangerine Dream et plusieurs autres.

 «J’ai rencontré tous les artistes. Pour Stéphane et moi, c’est toute une fierté. Mais on a travaillé fort. C’est du 18 heures par jour. Jean-Michel Jarre est très méticuleux. S’il y a une seconde de trop sur une piste, il le sait.»

Apprendre avec Moby

C’est par l’entremise de Joachim Garraud, ancien producteur de David Guetta et des Black Eyed Peas, que Marco est entré en contact avec Jean-Michel Jarre.

«Ça prenait quelqu’un de bilingue, qui a du temps, célibataire et qui peut voyager. Et, dans mon cas, je pouvais continuer de travailler pour Énergie et Rouge FM tout en étant à l’extérieur.»

Ce fut le début d’une aventure extraordinaire, au dire de l’artiste de Québec, qui a découvert que ses idoles étaient pour la plupart des gens très simples.

«On pense tous qu’ils ont la grosse tête. Mais quand tu parles d’un gars comme Moby, t’apprends juste à être à ses côtés. Hey, je recevais des tests de guitare de Pete Townshend. Tu fais-tu attention?» lance Marco G en riant comme un gamin.

«T’oses même pas dire qu’il y a des fausses notes. Mais il le faut le faire. Il faut être honnête. Les artistes aiment mieux ça que de travailler pour rien pendant des mois.»

Heute, am 08.09.2015, weilt Jean-Michel Jarre in Berlin, um einerseits im Rahmen der Präsentation der ARTE-Doku „A Journey Into Sound“ den Journalisten Frage und Antwort zu stehen und andererseits Werbung für sein aktuelles Album zu machen.

Jean-Michel Jarre gehört zu den Pionieren elektronischer Musik. Sein Debüt-Album „OXYGENE“ setzte neue Maßstäbe. Nachwievor ist es das meistverkaufte französische Album. 2015 erfüllte er sich einen Traum: Für das Album „E-Project“ holte er sich andere Legenden elektronischer Pop-Musik ins Studio. Mit dabei waren u.a. Vince Clarke, Gary Numan, Moby und AIR.

‘Glory‘ marked a welcome return from pioneering French electronic artist Jean-Michel Jarre and national peers M83. Having already garnered impressive collaborations alongside Gesaffelstein, Massive Attack and Tangerine Dream for his impending return to the full-length album format, 16 Bit Lolitas join the ranks of Steve Angello and Above & Beyond this month with their own rendition of Jarre’s latest collaborative offering.


With label duties spanning Armada, microCastle and Anjunadeep, 16 Bit Lolita’s long serving reputation for versatile productions has seldom gone overlooked. Jean-Michel Jarre joins Erasure’s Vince Clarke on ‘Automatic’

Electronic, ambient, and new-age pioneer Jean-Michel Jarre has announced a collaboration with Erasure’s Vince Clarke on his upcoming 14th studio album “E-Project”. “E-Project” will be released on October 16th and will feature 16 collaborations with M83, the late Edgar Froese of Tangerine Dream, Gesaffelstein and Massive Attack’s 3-D plus further artists who are still yet to be announced.

It is Jarre’s first release of original music since his 2007 album “Teo & Tea”. You can pre-order the album (and get a few tracks already) via iTunes and via via Amazon.

Some of these collaborations have already been released. In April 2015, Jarre released a collaboration with Gesaffelstein (“Conquistador”), another piece from his new album (“Glory”) he recorded in collaboration with M83 was released as part of the soundtrack of a short film called “EMIC”. The track composed in collaboration with late Edgar Froese and Tangerine Dream, entitled “Zero Gravity”, was released, together with a remix made by Above and Beyond. The recording with the late Edgar Froese of Tangerine Dream was one of Froese’s last projects before passing away in the January of 2015.
